We’re always talking about hair masks, on the blog, on our socials – but not all hair masks are created equal. Different hair types have different needs. Protein masks are especially helpful on chemically treated tresses, including color-treated or relaxed hair, and those with thick hair prone to dryness and split ends to help prevent breakage, repair damage, and restore elasticity.
Here’s how we made our DIY Protein Hair Mask 👇
What you’ll need:
1 egg – the average egg contains 6 grams of protein that hair loves
1 TSBP Organic Jamaican Black Castor Oil – ultra-moisturizing this oil is rich in fatty acids that help deliver a hydrating and nourishing boost to dry strands
2 TSP Avocado Oil – rich in nourishing fatty acids and vitamin e, this oil helps replenish dry, damaged hair
2 TSP Honey – a natural humectant that helps to deliver and lock-in moisture
(optional) ½ cup Greek yogurt— protein-rich and creamy, Greek yogurt helps balance out the mask for those who may find it too oily
What to do:
Crack open egg and whisk inside a bowl until blended. If you’d like to use Greek yogurt you can add it in now—if not skip ahead and add in the oils and honey to the egg. Mix everything until combined.
Apply mask as needed throughout hair, making sure to especially lather areas prone to dryness and breakage like ends. Let the mask sit in hair for 30 minutes before rinsing off with shampoo. You may have to shampoo twice to get everything out—so make sure to follow up with a good conditioner after!
