Do It Yourself: Make Your Own Purifying Oil Cleanser

It’s no secret that we’ve been conditioned to believe that oils do not belong on our faces for fear they’d make us look greasy, congest our skin, and cause breakouts. However, we now know how integral oils are to the overall health of your skin - regardless of your skin type. Jojoba, Castor, and Grapeseed oils gently moisturize the skin while dissolving excess oil and grime, striking the perfect balance between purifying and moisturizing the complexion. Mainstream cleansers, on the other hand, strip the skin of both the bad and the good oils, sending your skin into survival mode and encouraging it to produce excess oil to overcompensate for the lack of hydration - the excess oil attracts dirt and bacteria, and that’s what causes your breakouts.

So whether you’re oily, dry, or combination - you can reap the benefits of welcoming an oil cleanser to your routine. Today we’re showing you how to make your own. Combine your oils in an easily sealable container and voila! You’re ready to cleanse.

Oily / Combination Skin:

⅓ Castor Oil

⅔ Jojoba oil

Dry Skin:

⅔  Grapeseed Oil

⅓  Castor Oil

Very Dry Skin:

⅔ Apricot Kernel Seed Oil

⅓ Grapeseed Oil

The key to oil cleansing is the method. On a dry face (even on top of your makeup), massage your cleanser in a circular motion and watch your makeup dissolve. Once you’ve broken down all of the day’s makeup, dirt, and grime, dampen a washcloth with warm water and wipe it all away. Wiping the oils off with a cloth ensures no residue is left behind while also gently exfoliating your skin - a must if you want to keep your complexion glowing at all times. There you have it, now you’re ready to cleanse in the best way there is - the natural way!
