Handmade Holiday: DIY Gingerbread Body Butter

Tis’ the season for holiday scents and one of our favorites is freshly baked gingerbread cookies. So instead of buying artificially fragranced body butters and lotions this season – we’re sharing how to make your own with all natural, gentle ingredients! Package your finished body butter in a mason jar and top it with a bow and you’ve got a perfect handmade holiday gift, too.

What You Need:

What to Do:

  1. In a double boiler, combine your Shea Butter and Coconut Oil. Stir on medium heat until melted and well combined. Once melted, remove from heat.
  2. Scoop the mixture into a bowl and set in the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour.
  3. Remove from the fridge and add the cinnamon, ground ginger, and vanilla extract. Use a hand mixer to mix the ingredients until whipped (3-5 minutes).
  4. Scoop the body butter into a mason jar or any desired container - and gift away! The Body Butter has a shelf life of up to 6 months, If you see a separation, simply stir before applying.

The sample I made is brown whereas the picture shows the body butter as white. I am wondering if the mixture of shea butter and coconut oil needs to resolidify before adding the remaining ingredients – my sample was still semi liquid after 1 hour of refrigeration.
Thank you
