You already make sure the beauty products you use are natural and clean, so why not make sure what you use to apply, or remove your products with are clean too. Organic cotton isn’t just better for you—it’s better for the planet. Here’s why you should be using organic cotton.
It’s better for the environment
Un-fun fact: Conventionally grown cotton uses more insecticides than any other crop in the world, accounting for as much as 25% of the world’s use. These insecticides seep into our waterways and have harmful effects on animals and the farmers who grow them. Organic cotton has a much lower environmental footprint—using less water and less energy to grow.
It’s gentle on skin
It goes without saying that chemicals bad enough to disrupt ecosystems are bad enough to damage skin. Non-organic cotton is often treated with harsh chemicals and dyes that are absorbed by the skin and can cause irritation.
Not all organic cotton is GOTS certified, but ours is. GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. This organization helps oversees things like making sure workers are not being overworked and are paid a fair, living wage. GOTS also has a quality assurance program that makes sure products meet a high standard before being place on store shelves.
