Growing up, I didn’t always think about the daily choices I made. It didn’t occur to me to look into how much plastic I used as a kid, or what happened to my packaging when I was done, or where the ingredients in my favorite products were actually sourced. But now, every time my daughter picks up a jar of something or even a toy, I understand how much these decisions matter. 

Now, you don’t have to be a parent to understand what it means to care about the planet. Yet my daughter has opened my eyes to the importance of living a sustainable lifestyle. She’s inspired me to think long and hard about what I’m doing, and make small changes accordingly. 

So during Earth Month this year, I plan to prioritize simple, sustainable decisions that help give back. You can too. Here are some ideas to get started. 

Embrace Multiuse and Refillable Products

Sustainability shouldn’t be complicated. Everyday choices like reusing what you have and investing in multipurpose products can help lower your environmental impact. A small plastic jar, for instance, is an ideal travel-sized container, while a glass bottle might double as a miniature vase.

recycle your empties

Even the most sustainable packaging should be disposed of properly. And while recycling keeps waste out of landfills, the process isn’t always straightforward. This is why we include clear recycling instructions for every product on our website and product labels, so you know exactly how to get rid of everything responsibly. 

For more complex items like droppers, pumps, and sprayers, we’ve partnered with Pact Collective, a nonprofit that makes recycling accessible. Simply mail in up to 10 Sky Organics or other Pact-approved products, and they’ll make sure each one is recycled.

Restoring the planet means so much to us, especially when we take the time to reflect during Earth Month. Through our partnership with Ecologi, we’re planting five trees for every purchase and emails/SMS sign up throughout the month of April. 

The work Ecologi is doing inspires us. Through their supported regenerative agriculture projects, you can, among other things, help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through soil organic carbon sequestration. This innovative, emerging technique locks carbon in the soil and restores ecosystems in places from the Czech Republic to Zimbabwe.
