Tree Day!
Reflecting on Two Years of Partnership with Ecologi
The first Sunday of August marks National Tree Day. The holiday is extra-special in 2024—because our team is honoring two years of partnership with Ecologi: a social enterprise that fights the climate crisis through reforestation. Here at Sky Organics, we’re committed to leaving a positive impact on the world. Our goal is to make the planet a better place for future generations, along with those who may not have access to lush trees or certified organic ingredients. This is where our partnership with Ecologi comes in. For every order made on our website, and for every new subscriber who signs up for email and SMS updates, we will plant a tree.
Why Reforestation Matters
Reforestation is the process of planting trees in areas where forests have been depleted. As the world navigates the consequences of global deforestation, reforestation gives us hope. Here are some of the reasons why this practice means so much to us.
01Combat climate change
One of the benefits of reforestation is its ability to slow climate change. Trees act as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere and then storing it. This reduces the concentration of greenhouse gasses—cooling the planet as a result.
According to the UN, forests absorb about 2.6 billion tons of CO₂ each year, or about one-third of the amount released from burning fossil fuels. That’s a significant amount, and we’d like to see it continue to grow.
02Increase biodiversity
Forests are home to over 80% of the planet’s land-based animals, plants, and insects. In places where deforestation has impacted local habitats, reforestation can reconnect isolated groups—boosting genetic diversity and creating a stable ecosystem.
03Restore the soil
Deforestation can degrade the soil, increasing a place’s risk of natural disasters like landslides and floods. Trees, on the other hand, help restore soil quality. Their roots have a binding effect that can rehabilitate affected lands, making them more fertile (and agriculturally-friendly in general).
04Regulate the water cycle
Trees absorb and store rainfall, releasing it slowly into the soil. This helps maintain groundwater levels, ensuring a steady supply of water to rivers and streams—even during dry periods. Planting trees can improve water quality by filtering pollutants and reducing runoff.
05Create jobs
Reforestation offers economic benefits alongside environmental ones. At Sky Organics, we’ve seen firsthand the jobs Ecologi has introduced to local economies. Healthy forests even support industries like timber and paper, and produce fruits and nuts that can be sold at local markets.
06Improve health
It’s simple: trees enhance air quality by filtering pollutants and providing oxygen. And green spaces like parks and forests have been found to lower stress, boost mental health, and promote physical exercise.
Reforestation can also mitigate the “heat island” effect. While urban infrastructure reemits the sun’s heat more than forests, planting trees can lower temperatures and make cities more livable.
Forests also hold cultural value for many communities. In some cases, they’re integral to the cultural identity of a given area—and reforestation can help preserve people’s heritage and traditions. No wonder this practice is addressing some of the world’s most urgent social and environmental issues. This brings us back to Ecologi.

Our Partnership with Ecologi
Reflecting on our two-year partnership with Ecologi, we’re pleased to play even a small role in the world’s reforestation efforts. Creating jobs with fair wages and ethical, transparent labor practices has been really meaningful. And restoring degraded forests in community-led projects takes matters even further. Consider the Dundori reforestation project in Kenya, which we’re thrilled to be a part of.
This project involves restoring 200 hectares of forest: prioritizing local species, engaging local communities, and even planting trees in local schools. In addition to fighting environmental degradation, the project will improve tourism and people’s livelihoods too. It’s a huge initiative that deeply resonates with our core values.
Of course, it simply wouldn’t be possible without Ecologi. With over 28,000 trees funded to date, we want to continue honoring the forests that sustain us.
So please join Sky Organics in toasting our partner Ecologi, and in following our work in countries like Ecuador, Tanzania, and Madagascar. And remember that you too can make a difference, one tree at a time.
